Semaphore version downgrades are not supported. Do not install an earlier Semaphore version over an upgraded environment.

If the upgraded environment cannot be restored to normal operation, use the following procedure to return to the previously working version.

Before using this procedure, ensure that you have prepared a back-out plan for the upgrade. See Sample upgrade plan.

Before starting the procedure, ensure that:

  • The installer for the previously working Semaphore version is available.
  • The Studio and KMM backups created before the upgrade are available.
  • The file-system backup created before the upgrade is available.

See Back up your existing installation for information about the required backups.

To back out an upgrade:

  1. Stop all Semaphore services by using the Windows Services application.

  2. Uninstall the upgraded Semaphore version.

  3. Remove the existing application workspace before reinstalling the previous Semaphore version:

    C:\ProgramData\Smartlogic\Studio

Before removing the directory, verify that all Semaphore services are stopped and that a valid file-system backup is available.

The Semaphore installation directory does not need to be removed. After Semaphore is uninstalled, only log files remain in that directory.

  4. Install the previously working Semaphore version by following the standard installation procedure.

  5. Restore the Studio and KMM backups by using the restore functionality available in the Semaphore user interface. Restore Studio first, and then restore KMM.

For detailed instructions, refer to Backing up and restoring Semaphore in the Semaphore for Windows Administration guide.

  6. Verify that the restored environment is operating correctly. Perform a sanity check in the Semaphore user interface and verify that:

    • Studio starts successfully
    • KMM starts successfully
    • The expected configuration and data are available
