How Microsoft SharePoint Online columns are populated by Progress Data Cloud

Microsoft SharePoint Online columns can be populated by Progress Data Cloud. When this is configured, Progress Data Cloud sends your SharePoint Online document to the Semaphore Classification Server service for classification. In most cases, the string in the value attribute of the META XML elements in the Classification Server results is used to populate the SharePoint Online column value.

For example, if a column in Progress Data Cloud is configured to use the rulebase class Subjects-Subjects and Classification Server returns values like the ones shown in the example, the column value is set to Health, well-being and care. This is the value attribute specified in the META XML element. It has a name attribute (rulebase class) of Subjects-Subjects.

However, if the SharePoint Online column definition does not support the use of a compatible string, the value is not used. For example, if you try to set Health, well-being and care in a number column, the column value is not set.

In addition, if Classification Server returns more values for the same configured rulebase class than the column supports, the values used in the column are selected randomly.

Example

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<response>

  <SYSTEM name="HASH" value="adc0ce1e8ef7ce50d818b0b646f7b332"/>
  <META name="Type" value="WORD (1336)"/>
   <SYSTEM name="DeterminedLanguage" value="english"/>
  <SYSTEM name="LanguageGuessed" value="no"/>
  <META name="Subjects-Subjects" value="Health, well-being and care" id="1c314e74-b4f8-45f5-8d96-2fd4d691b9ec" score="0.59"/>

Column types that can be populated by Progress Data Cloud using this process

This table lists the column types that can be populated by Progress Data Cloud using this process.

Column type Value used
Single line of text One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes). If multiple values are returned from Classification Server, the value set in the column is randomly selected from the returned values.
Multiple lines of text Returned value attributes from the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), up to the number of lines configured for the column. If more values are returned than the column can hold, the value set in the column is randomly selected from the returned values.
Choice One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is one of the choices configured for the column.
Number One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a number.
Currency One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid currency value.
Date and time One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid datetime value.
Lookup One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is the same as one of the items in the source list configured for the column.
Yes/No One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid "yes" or "no" value.
Person or group One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it corresponds to a person or group in your organization's Active Directory accounts connected to SharePoint Online.
Hyperlink One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid hyperlink. The hyperlink column ignores pictures because pictures are typically not returned as value attributes.
Managed metadata The term ID in the id attribute and the name in the value attribute returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes).
The value should match the term information found in the column's selected term store term group. If the value is not present in the term store group, the term name appears in red when you view the column value.

Unsupported column types

These column types are not currently supported in Progress Data Cloud:

  • Calculated
  • External Data
  • Image
  • Location ("Geolocation")

SharePoint Online library attributes that can be set via Progress Data Cloud

Column type Condition Value used
Content type Multiple content types are configured for the library. One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid content type for the document library.
If you set the content type, other columns might not be present in all content types for the library.
Sensitivity label Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) is enabled for the library. One of the value attributes returned in the classification response (for the configured rulebase classes), as long as it is a valid sensitivity label for the document library.
If the sensitivity label is already set, it cannot be overwritten by Progress Data Cloud.
