Before you upgrade a Progress Application Server (PAS) for OpenEdge instance and its deployed applications from OpenEdge Release 12 to 13, create a backup of your existing PAS for OpenEdge instance and its deployed instances. You can do this backup process by creating a zip archive of the root directory of the OpenEdge 12 instance. If you are not using a source code control system, Progress also recommends creating a backup of the entire project space.

After you complete the backup, upgrade all ABL Service projects created in Progress Developer Studio, and then create a new PAS for OpenEdge Release 13 instance. For details, perform the steps described in the following topics:
