From this screen, you can Add or Modify a Virtual Service. You can also filter the Virtual Services based on Virtual IP Address, Name, and Status using the filter text box.

Refer to the sections below for further details.

Filter and Sort Virtual Services

You can filter the Virtual Services based on the option selected from the Filter By drop-down list. The filter option available are:

  • Virtual IP Address

  • Name

  • Status

By default, the Virtual IP Address option is selected.

If you enter any text in the text box that is contained in the Virtual IP Address, Name, or Status (depending on what is selected in the drop-down), the list is instantly filtered to show results that match. If you enter any text that does not match (based on the option selected in the drop-down), the text box flashes red and the text that does not match is deleted.

The Virtual Services table displays a list of Virtual Services on the LoadMaster, summarizing the main properties of each and giving the options to modify or delete services, or create a new service. You can sort the entries by Virtual IP Address, Name, Certificate Installed, and Status by using the up/down arrow options in the table header.

  • For Virtual IP Address, entries can be sorted first by IP version (IPv4 followed by IPv6), then by IP address (in ascending order) or the opposite.

Note: The list will not re-sort if the Virtual Service changes while you are viewing the page. Also, the sorting does not apply to SubVSs.
  • For Name, the order of sorting first shows blank entries, followed by special characters, and the remaining entries are shown alphabetically (or the opposite of this).

  • For Certificate Installed, the order of sorting is as follows (or the opposite of this):

    • Numeric values

    • Special characters

    • Alphabetical order

    • SSL-based Virtual Services that a certificate must be added to

    • Virtual Services without a certificate (and SSL Acceleration is disabled)

  • For Status, the order of sorting is as follows:

Note: The meaning of each status is described later in the Virtual Service Statuses section.
    • Up/Unchecked (both are at same level)

    • FailMsgs

    • Redirect

    • Sorry

    • WAF Misconfigured

    • Security Down

    • Down

    • Disabled

    In reverse order:

    • Disabled

    • Down

    • Security Down

    • WAF Misconfigured

    • Sorry

    • Redirect

    • FailMsg

    • Up/Unchecked (both are at same level)

Note: You can see what sort is currently applied by checking which arrow is darker in color. Only one sort can be applied at any one time. Click one of the lighter color arrows to apply a new sort.
Modify and Delete Virtual Services
Note: CAUTION Delete is permanent, there is no UNDO feature. Use with care.

Each configured Virtual Service may be changed by clicking the Modify button or deleted by clicking the Delete button.

If you try to delete a Virtual Service containing SubVSs, a confirmation warning appears. Click OK to confirm the deletion.

Virtual Service Statuses

The status of the Virtual Service is displayed. Health checking is enabled by default when a Virtual Service is created. For further information on health checking, refer to the Real Servers section.

The Virtual Service status may be one of the following:

Status

Description

At least one Real Server is available.

No Real Servers are available.

All Real Servers are down and traffic is routed to a separately configured Sorry Server that is not part of the Real Server set, with no health checking.

The Virtual Service has been administratively disabled by unticking the Activate or Deactivate Service check box in the Basic Properties section of the Virtual Service modify screen.

A fixed redirect response is in use. One way that redirect Virtual Services can be created is by using the Add a Port 80 Redirector VS option in the Advanced Properties section. For more information, refer to the Advanced Properties section.

A fixed error message has been configured. A fixed error message can be specified using the Not Available Redirection Handling options. Refer to the Advanced Properties section for more information.

Health checking of the Real Servers has been disabled. All Real Servers are accessed and presumed UP.

Security Down The LoadMaster is unable to reach the Authentication Server and will prevent access to any Virtual Service which has Edge Security Pack (ESP) enabled for authentication.
WAF Misconfigured If the Web Application Firewall (WAF) for a particular Virtual Service is misconfigured, for example if there is an issue with a rule file, the status changes to WAF Misconfigured and turns red. If the Virtual Service is in this state, all traffic is blocked. WAF can be disabled for that Virtual Service to stop the traffic being blocked (if required) while troubleshooting the problem.

Virtual Service Setting Sections

The image below shows the Virtual Service properties screen. It is composed of several component sections:

  • Basic Properties - where the usual and most common attributes are set
  • Standard Options – the most widely used features of a Virtual Service
  • QoS/Limiting – where the options relating to the rate limit connections/bandwidth can be set to the LoadMaster and/or from specific client devices.
  • SSL Properties – if SSL acceleration is being used, it will show Acceleration Enabled and this section of the screen is used to configure the SSL functions
  • Advanced Properties – the additional features for a Virtual Service
  • WAF – where the options relating to the Web Application Firewall (WAF) can be set
  • ESP Options – where the options relating to ESP are set
  • Real Servers/SubVSs – where Real Servers/SubVSs are assigned to a Virtual Server

The Real Server status is also indicated by an icon to the left of each Real Server. A green icon with a white star in the middle indicates that the fixed weighting Scheduling Method is selected. For further details on the possible Real Server statuses, refer to the Real Servers section.

Note: Depending upon the service type, and enabled or disabled features, specific fields and options show in the WUI. The screenshots in this document may not represent every possible configuration.
