To specify your installation choices, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Product Configuration Data dialog box, press CTRL + A to load your License Addendum file, which contains the serial numbers and control codes for the OpenEdge license you purchased. An electronic license addendum file eases the installation process by reading your serial number and control code information from the file, rather than being manually entered. Alternatively, enter the company name, serial number, and control number for each OpenEdge product listed in your License Addendum file. When you are finished entering license information, press CTRL + E to continue.


  2. In the Java Home Location dialog box, enter the path where the JDK is installed to specify the JavaHome and press ENTER to continue.

    Note: Ensure that you have the correct JDK version installed. Otherwise, an error message is displayed, and you cannot proceed with the installation. For information about the JDK requirements on each supported platform, see the OpenEdge 12 Platform Compatibility Guide.
  3. In the Install Type and Destination dialog box, select one of the options, press the TAB key to highlight Continue with Installation, and then press ENTER.


    The options are described in the following table:

    Type of Installation One the following:
    • Complete Install to automatically install all mandatory, recommended, and optional components and subcomponents of the OpenEdge products you are installing.
    • Custom Install to selectively install the recommended and optional components and subcomponents on a product-by-product basis. Note that this installation is recommended for more advanced users and provides the flexibility to distribute OpenEdge components on different machines, select product components to suit specific business needs, and work around issues such as disk space limitations.
    Note: When customizing an installation, Progress recommends that you consider removing only optional components and subcomponents. Removing recommended products might negatively affect a product's functionality.
    Destination pathname
    Working Dir pathname The directory that contains your OpenEdge database and application files. This directory must always be separate from the OpenEdge installation directory.The directory in which the OpenEdge software is installed.
    Management pathname: The directory in which OpenEdge Management is installed. If you have other versions of Progress or OpenEdge products installed, do not enter the path name where these products reside.
    Management Working dir pathname: The directory in which your applications, databases, and log files will reside. Do not make your OpenEdge Management working directory a subdirectory under the OpenEdge Management installation path.
    If you install a database product, the installation program by default installs the ABL database server connection needed to support queries written in ABL. However, the installation program prompts you to specify whether you want to select the SQL Server database engine to support queries written in SQL. Press the TAB key to highlight Continue with Install, then press ENTER.


  4. In the Language SelectionThe directory in which the OpenEdge software dialog box, select the language to be used for OpenEdge error and informational messages, press the TAB key to highlight Continue with Installation and then press ENTER.


    You can also select Make Default. Notice that your language selection is highlighted with an asterisk (*). Once you have made your choice, press TAB to highlight Continue with Installation and then press ENTER.


    Note: If you are installing any of the following products using their respective standalone installer, you can select only English-American as a default language during the installation:
    • OpenEdge JMS Adapter
    • Progress Application Server for OpenEdge
    • Adapter for Sonic ESB
    • SQL Client Access
    • Progress Development AppServer for OpenEdge
    • Progress Development Studio for OpenEdge products
  5. In the International Settings dialog box, choose the settings for your character set, date, and number format in OpenEdge software. Details about the information required for this dialog box are available from online help. Press the TAB key to highlight Continue with Installation, and then press ENTER.


  6. In the Progress Application Server Details dialog box, specify the port details to be used by Progress Application Server (PAS) for OpenEdge, then press ENTER.


  7. In the OpenEdge Authentication Gateway Configuration dialog box, set the configuration details for the OpenEdge Authentication Gateway to be used with PAS for OpenEdge. Press TAB to navigate among the fields in this dialog box. Details about the information required are available from online help. Once you have added the details, press ENTER.
