OpenEdge Replication systems support Transport Layer Security (TLS) for network communcation. OpenSSL guarantees protection of all replication network messages sent during replication processing and provides message authentication capabilities.

TLS improves security for systems using TDE, which does not provide full encryption in replication network messages. When TDE is enabled, only the AI Block data portion of the AIBLOCK network message is encrypted as it is sent over the wire. TDE is available only to Enterprise users, but TLS is available to all users of OpenEdge Replication.
