When you install OpenEdge, the ESAM installer runs automatically in silent mode. You can also run it independently to fix problems with the ESAM installation.

After the OpenEdge installation finishes automatic execution of the ESAM installer, an external safe space called ESAM is created. When you install OpenEdge on a new system where OpenEdge 12.6 or later releases as well as ESAM have never been installed before, the ESAM installation is treated as a new installation, and all the ESAM libraries are installed. If ESAM was installed before, the ESAM installer updates the ESAM artifacts where required.

In Windows, the safe space is created at C:\Windows\System32\openedge.d and in UNIX, it is created at /etc/openedge.d/.
Note: No custom installation location is supported for ESAM.
