Differences to older versions

In earlier versions, the service name for the request was “om_structure”. It is now “structure”. “om_structure” will continue to work, but is considered deprecated.

The structure of the models between older versions of Semaphore and this have changed significantly, therefore the information returned has necessarily changed. However, as much as possible the structure of the response has not been altered. This sometimes means that attributes that had meaning in Semaphore 3 no longer have meaning in Semaphore 4 or Semaphore 5, so they are populated with “similar” data.

Index Metadata

Any data that is associated with the model itself.

Term classes

Previously the ID attribute was a fairly meaningless integer. The ID is now the URI for the class. Similarly the PARENT_ID is the URI of the parent class (or skos:Concept if no other parent class is defined in the model).

The facets in the new response are the the Concept Schemes. The returned IDs are the identifiers used within the model (by default the guid). We now also return the URI of the facet as the Concept Scheme URI. The attribute NAME=“term” is returned as before, but this should be considered deprecated as it is now meaningless.

Term attributes

The returned attributes are those metadata items that have a Boolean range. The ID is the URI for the metadata type

Term notes

The returned term notes are those metadata items that have a range other than boolean. The ID is the URI for the metadata type.

Term metadata

Previously this data was a list of the choice types available and the options within each choice. As choices are not available in the Semaphore 4 model, this element will always be empty. It is only output for consistency with the older version and should be considered deprecated.

Note, Semaphore Settings are not output as metadata items.

Relationships

Because the standard “skos:broader/skos:narrower”, “skos:related” and “skosxl:altLabel” relationships can be mapped onto the previous “broader than/narrower than”, “associated” and “equivalence” relationships, these are output with the same values as those relationships.

Other custom relationship types no longer have an abbreviation or display name. To keep consistent with previous versions we do output ABRV and REV_ABRV as the upper case version of the relationship name and reverse relationship name, and FWD_DISP_NAME and REV_DISP_NAME as the same as the name. However, all four of these attributes should be considered deprecated.

Equivalence relations

Any relationship that is a sub-property of skosxl:altLabel is output as an equivalence relationship.

Hierarchical relations

Any relationship that is a sub-property of skos:broader/skos:narrower is output as an hierarchical relationship.

Associative relations

Any relationship that is a sub-property of skos:related is output as an associative relationship.
