Verifying transfer integrity

WS_FTP can be configured to verify the integrity of file transfers, provided the FTP server that it connects to supports integrity checks. For more information, see About transfer integrity checks.

Enabling transfer integrity checking in WS_FTP includes two steps:

  • Enable the Check transfer integrity option in Site Options, as described below.
  • Set the algorithm used to compare the transferred file with the original. This depends on the cryptography that the server supports and determines the security (or strength) of the integrity check. This is set in Program Options > File Integrity.

To enable Transfer Integrity checking for a site:

  1. On the toolbar, click Connect to open the Site Manager.
  2. Select the site you want to enable Transfer Integrity checking for, then click Edit. The Site Options dialog opens.
  3. In the left pane, select Transfer, then select Check Transfer Integrity.
  4. Click OK to close the Site Options dialog.

After a transfer is completed, the log window reports the outcome of the Transfer Integrity check.

To enable Transfer Integrity checking in the default site options:

Note: After setting the Check Transfer Integrity option, all new sites will check transfer integrity by default. Any existing sites will retain their previous settings; if you want to enable transfer integrity checking for existing sites, you must modify their profiles individually.
  1. On the toolbar, click Connect to open the Site Manager.
  2. In the left pane, select the Sites folder, then click Edit. The Folder Options dialog opens.
  3. In the left pane, select Transfer, then select Check Transfer Integrity.
  4. Click OK to close the Folder Options dialog.
