Rescan options enable you to refine scanning behavior associated with certain active monitors including interface active monitors. These options are most useful when performing rescan on selected batches or groups of devices.

  • Basic Rescan. When a basic rescan of a device is initiated, the Primary Role will not change unless previously set to Device or Managed Device and a more appropriate role is found. New sub roles are considered if scan rules match. Please see Defining Device Scan Rules for Device Detection for additional information. Nothing is removed from the device.
  • Advanced Rescan. When an advanced rescan of a device is initiated, Basic Rescan rules apply PLUS, any existing sub roles applied to the device, whose scan criteria does NOT match the device, will be updated.
  • Update Inventory Data. Enabled by default, this option removes and rescans the device(s) inventory data for the specified time period. This ensures that inventory information is kept up-to-date which can impact map calculations, monitoring and reports, among other device-specific areas of WhatsUp Gold. Please see About Inventory Data for additional information about Inventory Data.
  • Update Monitor Comments. Select this option to update comments for expandable monitors (e.g., SNMP Table.)
  • Enable/Disable Monitors. Select this option to enable or disable any applicable monitors (e.g., Interface or SNMP Table) based on their configuration.
  • Apply 'Use in rescan'. Select this option to cause any applicable active monitor with the ‘Use in Rescan’ setting enabled to be added to the device. Please note, expandable monitors do not support the "Use in Rescan"functionality.
