The following procedure steps present a simple workflow for using WhatsUp Gold to discover and monitor your NTA+ Collector effecively integrating the two products for enhanced monitoring of flow data. For more information and additional details regarding WhatUp Gold disovery and monitoring features, make sure to review the latest WhatsUp Gold user help available on the Progress Documenation website.

To integrate WhatsUp Gold and NTA+:

  1. Log in to WhatsUp Gold using the WhatsUp Gold Administrator Password you created immediately following WhatsUp Gold installation.
  2. Select New Scan from the DISCOVER menu at the top of the user interface to launch the Discovery Scan dialog.
  3. Under Choose your starting device set, enter the IP address of your NTA+ Collector device in the entry field provided.
  4. At this point, you can configure any other devices, credentials, and/or discovery options if you'd like, but for the specific purpose of integrating WhatsUp Gold and NTA+, you can simply select the Review & Run tab at left, then click Run to begin the discovery scan.
  5. Next, select Libraries > Credentials from the SETTINGS menu at the top of the user interface to launch the Credentials Library.
  6. Click the Add icon (+), then select REST API from the menu of credential types that appear to launch the Add REST API Credential dialog.
  7. Configure the new REST API credential for your NTA+ Collector as follows:
    1. Enter a Name and Description for the credential.
    2. Select OAuth 2.0 as the Auth Type. Please note, making this selection changes the configuration options presented within the Add REST API Credential dialog.
    3. Select Password Grant as the Grant Type.
    4. Enter the IP address of your NTA+ Collector as the Token URL in the following format: https://<ip address>/resources/oauth/token.
    5. Enter the username and password required to access your NTA+ Collector.
    6. Enter invea-tech as the Client ID.
    7. Click Test. If the test results dialog reports success, click OK. If the test results dialog reports failure, make changes as needed, then retest the REST API credential configuration.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Select Discovered Network from the DISCOVER menu at the top of the user interface.
  10. Locate and select your NTA+ Collector. This launches its Device Information Card.
  11. Click Start Monitoring to launch the Start/Update Monitoring dialog.
  12. Click Start.
  13. After the NTA+ Collector is actively being monitored by WhatsUp Gold, select My Network at the top of the user interface.
  14. Locate your NTA+ Collector, right-click on it, then select Device Properties to launch the Device Properties interface.
  15. Select the Credentials tab on the left side of the interface.
  16. Click Edit to the right of "REST API", select the REST API credential you created from the drop-down menu that appears, then click OK.
  17. Exit the Device Properties interface.
  18. Select NTA+ Dashboard from the NTA+ menu at the top of the user interface to launch the NTA+ Network Operations Dashboard.
  19. Use the device selection control at the top of the dashboard view to navigate to and select your NTA+ Collector. The reports contained in the dashboard should begin to show flow data.
