The following new features and improvements were added to WS_FTP Server 2025.0 (10.0).

Multi-Factor Authentication support for WS_FTP Server Manager and Ad Hoc Transfer

WS_FTP Server 2025 introduces Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for WS_FTP Server Manager and Ad Hoc Transfer. MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide a second form of verification in addition to their credentials when logging on.

  • MFA helps protect accounts from unauthorized access, even if passwords are compromised.
  • Administrators can enable or enforce MFA for users through WS_FTP Server Manager settings.
  • MFA can be configured using time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) generated by authenticator apps.

Ad Hoc Transfer performance tuning via configurable buffers

You can now adjust AHT upload and download buffer sizes in AHT\web.config to optimize throughput for your environment. Larger values may improve transfer speed but can increase memory usage and lead to out‑of‑memory errors. For more information, see Tuning Ad Hoc Transfer Upload and Download Buffer Sizes.

PostgreSQL database upgrade

In WS_FTP Server 2025, the bundled PostgreSQL database has been upgraded to version 17.7. This update includes important security patches, performance improvements, and compatibility enhancements provided by the PostgreSQL community.

OpenSSL upgrade

This release updates the OpenSSL library bundled with WS_FTP Server to version 3.5.4, along with the FIPS-140-3 validated module version 3.1.2. These updates deliver enhanced security, compliance, and performance improvements.

Microsoft SQL Server 2025 support

WS_FTP Server 2025 supports Microsoft SQL Server 2025 Enterprise/Standard.

Upcoming changes to supported operating systems

WS_FTP Server will remove support for Windows Server 2016 in an upcoming major release or when Microsoft ends extended support for this operating system on January 12, 2027.
