Actions fire when the specified state change occurs on the device to which the action is assigned. For example, if you configure an email action to fire when a specific device goes into a "down" state, WhatsUp Gold sends a notification to the address configured for the action when the state change occurs.
To assign an action to a device:
- Go to the Index tab, then navigate to WhatsUp Gold Device Management > Devices and Groups. The Devices and Groups page appears.
- Click a device group from the Device Groups section of the page. The list of devices associated with the device group appears in the Detail grid section of the page.
- Select a device from the Detail grid.
- Click Device Properties from the row Options menu of the selected device. The Device Properties page appears.
- Select Actions and Action Policies from the Properties list. The details of the Actions and Action Policies properties appear.
- Select Apply individual Actions, then click Assign. The Action Builder appears.
- Choose either to select an existing action from the Actions Library or create a new action.
- Click Next to specify the action type that you want to fire and then the state change that will trigger the action. You can also specify a previous state dependency and blackout schedule, if desired.
- Click Finish.
- Click Save.
