Managing Credentials

The Credentials Library stores login, community string, and database connection information in a central location for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Windows Management Instrumentation (Windows), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), Telnet, Secure Shell (SSH), VMware, and AVVID XML Layer (AXL) connections used in .
It is important to set up credentials for network devices and newly discovered devices with . Credentials are configured in the Credentials Library and used in several places throughout the application. They can be associated with a single device using the Device Properties > Credentials option or with multiple devices using the Bulk Action > Credentials option.
To access the Credentials Library:
- Go to the Index tab, then navigate to > Configuration and Settings > Credentials.
- Use the credentials options at the top of the workspace as needed:
- Grouped by:. A default filter that displays the credentials on the dashboard by credential type. If you remove this filter, credentials are listed in one large group. We recommend leaving this filter.
- Search box. Retrieves credential type(s) that match user search criteria.
- Create New. Adds a new credential type to the library.
Each entry on the credentials workspace contains the following:
- Options. Use the row menu option to edit, copy, or delete the selected credential type.
- Name. The name of the credential type.
- Description. An optional description that can be created to provide more information about the credential type.
To add credentials:
- Click Create New. The Select Credential Type dialog appears.
- Select and configure a credential type as required. Configuration boxes vary depending upon the selected type. Refer to the following for individual credential type descriptions and their specific configuration boxes.

- Click OK. The credential is added to the Credentials Library.
