The label attribute sets a label on a rule so the resulting score of the rule can be referenced by a link attribute or a Link List rule. This allows scoring to be passed within a concept’s rulebase, or from one concept to other concepts via hierarchical and/or associative relationships.

The template label attribute should not be confused with the rulebase label attribute - the difference being is the template attribute typically uses variables whereas the rulebase attribute uses actual values. During publishing, the variables are then used to generate actual values in the generated rulebases.

Variables are used in the template label attribute so that unique labels can be generated in rulebases. Unique labels are desired so that the scores from the correct concepts are passed. In the template, if actual values were ‘hardcoded’, then multiple concepts would have the exact same label generated in the rulebases.

For a list of allowed variables on a link attribute or on a rulebase link rule used in a template, see Substitution variables

For variables allowed on a Link List rule, because the label attribute is used to reference other concepts, the format of the variables are the Related Concept Context variables.
