This section provides notes and tips that help when you plan or begin a MOVEit Transfer system installation.

Windows Server User Requirement

The MOVEit Transfer installation program creates this Windows Server user (if the user does not already exist).

The Windows Server User that runs the MOVEit Transfer Server requires a local administrator-level service account to dispatch and run the MOVEit Services. The installation program creates this user with local administrator permissions for new or fresh installations. This user must be able to run MOVEit Transfer as administrator (no user-level restrictions).

MOVEit Transfer Server Runs Under a Local Administrator User

Other Windows Server notes:

  • Roles and Features. The MOVEit Transfer installation process activates Roles and Features needed for the installation.
  • Windows Firewall. The service creates exceptions in the Windows Firewall to permit connections to MOVEit FTP and SSH. (You can find these settings in the MOVEit Transfer Configuration Utility.)
  • NET Framework. MOVEit Transfer and MOVEit Automation Servers require .NET 4.7.2. If the Windows host does not have Internet access, you must install .NET by other means before you run the MOVEit Transfer installation program.
Note: Windows Server 2019 comes with .NET 4.7.2.

Fixed-Database Roles Needed for MS SQL User

These notes describe the permissions (database-level roles) needed for the user that owns the MS SQL MOVEit Transfer database. If you designate MS SQL Server as your MFT database after you provide the MS SQL Server credentials and location to the MOVEit Transfer installation program, the MOVEit Transfer installation program creates a database (default name moveittransfer) and creates a database administrator of the same name (moveittransfer). The database user requires the following fixed-database roles:

  • db_datawriter
  • db_datareader
  • db_owner
Note: You can find more information about the permissions associated with SQL Server Fixed-database roles on the Microsoft Docs Portal.

MySQL Database

If you plan on choosing MySQL as your MFT database remove any local non-MOVEit MySQL versions on the MySQL host before you run the MOVEit Transfer installer.

Other Notes

Some other notes that might be helpful are:

  • IPv6 addresses. MOVEit Transfer does not support remote access from clients using IPv6 addresses. To avoid client-connection problems, disable IPv6 addresses on the MOVEit Host server.
  • Domain Controllers. To support installation on Domain Controllers, you must install a network service called File and Printer Sharing.

Before you install MOVEit Transfer , ensure that the system meets the hardware and software requirements. For more information, see the current Release Notes.
