Follow these instructions to upgrade MOVEit Automation on the same server with Failover.

Prerequisites

Before you upgrade MOVEit Automation :
  • Carefully review the Release Notes for your current and target versions. Release Notes for all supported versions are available here: MOVEit Automation.
  • Review the Plan your upgrade topic.
  • Download the MOVEit Automation installer package and activation code. For information about how to locate and download the license file, see Download license file.
  • You should be confident in your backup strategy, and that you can restore your current environment with a recent set of data in a timely fashion.
  • You will experience downtime during the upgrade process. Consider the impact of the outage and your operational schedule.

To upgrade MOVEit Automation in-place with Failover

  1. Copy the MOVEit Automation installer package to both MOVEit Automation servers.
  2. Before you begin this process, ensure that your systems meet these Assumptions and Requirements.
  3. MOVEIt Failover requires that each node has a copy of its corresponding failover node's encryption key. Copy the primary node's encryption key to the secondary node and the secondary node's encryption key to the primary node.

The encryption key refers to registry values underneath the KeyMat registry key located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Standard Networks\MOVEitCentral\KeyMat

  4. Ensure that both nodes are communicating properly:
    1. Using the Web Admin, check the SYSTEM > Failover status page.
    2. Confirm that the status for both nodes is All OK.
  5. Stop the scheduler on the primary node using the Web Admin COMMANDS > Stop task scheduler.
  6. Stop the MOVEit Automaton service on the secondary node using Windows Services. Set the Startup Type to Manual. For more information, see MOVEit Automation service.
  7. To avoid tasks running before the upgrade is complete, on the primary and secondary nodes select the Start with scheduler disabled check box on the MOVEit Automation Config Utility General tab. This allows you to test your server in a controlled environment.
  8. On the primary node, right-click the installer and select Run as administrator. Follow the installer prompts. For more detailed prompt information, see Single node in-place upgrade.
  9. Ensure that the MOVEit Automation service is running on the primary node.
  10. To ensure that the primary node is functioning as expected, run the basic tests in your test plan.
  11. On the secondary node, right-click the installer and select Run as administrator. Follow the installer prompts.
  12. Ensure that the MOVEit Automation service is running on the secondary node.

After upgrading both nodes you may receive an email stating that the MOVEit Automation servers were unreachable. This can be ignored as a temporary disconnect is expected during the upgrade process.

  13. Ensure that both nodes are communicating properly with a status of All OK in the SYSTEM > Failover status page.
  14. The scheduler should remain off until testing of the new system as outlined in the post-upgrade section is complete.

Post upgrade

After the upgrade procedure is complete, post-upgrade/migrate activities should be performed to verify that all data was imported and to test the system to ensure that all functionality is working as expected.

What to do if something goes wrong

When an issue arises in a migration, upgrade, or other install processes, consulting the install logs is a good way to begin the troubleshooting process. You may find enough information in the logs to resolve your issue. If you need assistance from our technical support team, they will ask for your install logs.

For information about how to locate install or other log files, see Locate MOVEit log files.
