You have the ability to customize vCenter server device properties so that only the VMware events you select will be logged by and appear in the Virtualization Event Log.

To configure VMware events:

  1. Go to the Index tab, then navigate to > Devices & Discovery > Devices and Groups.
  2. Select a vCenter server, then click > Device Properties for the target device.
  3. Select Virtualization from the Properties panel to access virtualization event data options for the device.
  4. Select On from the Status list to enable event data collection.
  5. Select which VMware events you want to collect and subsequently display in the Virtualization Event Log.
  6. Click Save.

The following events can be collected:

  • All HA (High Availability) error events which includes:
    • DasAgentUnavailableEvent. Records that the vCenter cannot contact any primary host in the High Availability (HA) cluster.
    • DasHostFailedEvent. Records when a host failure has been detected by VMware High Availability (HA).
    • InsufficientFailoverResourcesEvent. Records that the cluster resources are insufficient to satisfy the configured HA failover level
    • HostDasErrorEvent. Records when there is a HA error on a host.
    • NotEnoughResourcestoStartVMEvent. Records when the VMware High Availability (HA) does not find sufficient resources to failover a virtual machine.
    • VMDasUpdateErrorEvent. Records that an error occurred when updating the HA agents with the current state of the virtual machine.
    • VMFailoverFailedEvent. Records when a virtual machine failover was unsuccessful.
  • All Virtual machine migration events which includes:
    • MigrationEvent. Records the receipt of a migration warning or error.
    • MigrationErrorEvent. Records the receipt of a migration error.
    • MigrationHostErrorEvent. Records a migration error that includes the destination host.
    • MigrationHostWarningEvent. Records a migration warning that includes the destination host.
    • MigrationResourceErrorEvent. Records a migration error that includes both the destination host and the resource pool.
    • MigrationResourceWarningEvent. Records a migration warning that includes both the destination host and the resource pool.
    • MigrationWarningEvent. Records the receipt of a migration warning.
    • VmBeingHotMigratedEvent. Records that a virtual machine is being hot-migrated.
    • VmBeingMigratedEvent. Records that a virtual machine is being migrated.
    • VmMigratedEvent. Records a virtual machine migration.
    • DrsVmMigratedEvent. Records a virtual machine migration initiated by Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS).
  • All security related events which includes:
    • BadUsernameSessionEvent. Records a failed user log on.
    • NoAccessUserEvent. Records a failed user log on due to insufficient access permission.
  • Other events. Select this option to specify additional events to collect.
