Actions fire when the specified state change occurs on the device to which the action is assigned. For example, if you configure an email action to fire when a specific device goes into a "down" state, WhatsUp Gold sends a notification to the address configured for the action when the state change occurs.

To assign an action to a device:

  1. Go to the Index tab, then navigate to WhatsUp Gold Device Management > Devices and Groups. The Devices and Groups page appears.
  2. Click a device group from the Device Groups section of the page. The list of devices associated with the device group appears in the Detail grid section of the page.
  3. Select a device from the Detail grid.
  4. Click Device Properties from the row Options menu of the selected device. The Device Properties page appears.
  5. Select Actions and Action Policies from the Properties list. The details of the Actions and Action Policies properties appear.
  6. Select Apply individual Actions, then click Assign. The Action Builder appears.
  7. Choose either to select an existing action from the Actions Library or create a new action.
  8. Click Next to specify the action type that you want to fire and then the state change that will trigger the action. You can also specify a previous state dependency and blackout schedule, if desired.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Click Save.
